Technical Development Manager

Blueberry Software Ltd is the software product division of Blueberry Group, which also includes Blueberry Consultants Ltd ( and Blueberry Systems Ltd.

Owned and managed by ex-developers, Blueberry has a very wide technical skills base and an entrepreneurial culture.  We value low-level technical expertise and a pragmatic approach – but still have a strong interest in new technologies and approaches. 

Blueberry Software develops and markets software products in the UK and Worldwide. The company’s current products include the PC Screen Recording tools BB FlashBack and BB Test Assistant.  

The company is entering a significant growth phase, with the following planned:

  • The launch of an exciting new product (“Cloud Machine Manager” – see
  • The launch of a new website for the FlashBack product range, combined with new product variants in this sector with strong potential (e.g. Android App)
  • A significant expansion of marketing activity across all BB Software products  

As a result, Blueberry Software is looking for experienced development managers to lead development activity. The roles available include:

  • Managing the ongoing development of the BB FlashBack product range, including a cloud-hosted file sharing portal (FB Connect) and PC installed products, plus the new Android App. 
  • Managing the integration of our internal CRM systems with external marketing automation tools to help drive digital marketing activity.

The actual allocation of project responsibilities will depend on the skills/experience of the successful candidate(s).

Position Requirements

  • A 2:1 or better degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related subject.
  • 5 years post-graduate experience of professional software development including C++ or C# languages and SQL Server experience.

Blueberry’s development managers are expected to:

  • Work with product managers & marketing to specify the product functionality.
  • Design and plan software implementation.
  • Direct and review the work of the programming team.
  • Ensure the development team meets milestones and deadlines.

The successful candidate will have considerable hands on development experience, and will be able to work independently. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. 

Experience of any of the following would be very useful:  Video file formats / codecs; Amazon EC2 hosting; Hubspot; SQL Databases.

Our company environment is informal but professional. The management structure is flat, there are no internal politics, and we strive to make our working environment as friendly and relaxed as possible.


GBP 35,000 to GBP 45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Working Hours

This is a full time position based at Blueberry HQ in Digbeth, central Birmingham. Home working is a possibility, although attendance at the office is preferred. 

Work patterns are based around a 37.5 hour working week, typically 9-5 Monday to Friday, but we are happy to discuss flexible working. Please note that at manager level, some unpaid overtime is expected during busy periods.
